Many beginners to play the piano, guitar or other instruments are interested in knowing: what is solfeggio? Why should I study music theory? How will knowing theory and harmony help me play or sing?
I will try to answer these questions on this page.

It is very important to me that my students are musically well-rounded and educated. Therefore, I organize solfeggio and music theory group lessons for my students at a reduced price. There are several groups. Up to six people in a group. The cost of a solfeggio lesson is only $5 per lesson per person. The duration of the lesson is 50-60 minutes. There are homework assignments and tests for mastering the material. These lessons are very helpful for everyone. Knowledge of theory and a good ear for music will help in playing the instrument and make learning much more effective!
Let me know what time it will be convenient for you to practice and I will add you to a group that suits you.

What does knowledge of solfeggio and music theory give?

  • We need musical notation for ease of learning musical works. Same, that when reading books, we know letters, signs punctuation, we understand the structure of what we read. We are proficient in novel concepts, poetry or novel. So in music, we need to master musical concepts and terms, for ease of understanding what is played. In order not to memorize note by note, but to understand how the melody moves, knowing this, we predict its development For example,
  • notes moving in a row or through one,
  • in which key
  • how many characters are there
  • is this a fragment of what scale?
  • And if by a triad,
  • is it a dominant or subdominant,
  • will there be a resolution to the tonic,
  • or interrupted cadence?

< p> All this knowledge gives us speed in studying of a material. Proper reading of the work helps not to make mistakes in performances. Not only hands play,, but also the head.

A person sees in a musical text not individual elements – notes, and meaningfully combines them in the design. And reads finished designs. At the same time, internal hearing anticipates their sound.

Auditory analysis can be compared with listening when learning a language and understanding speech by ear.

Hearing is the most important thing for a musician, and it is developed by the exercises that are given in solfeggio lessons. Solfegging, we practicing to hear subtleties of music. Hear modulation, understand where is the introductory tone, and where is its resolution. Knowing this, whengetting acquainted with a new work, we are much better and faster at remembering it and playback. By correctly intoning, it is possible to lead the phrase better when playing, conveying the best moments of the composition.

The skill of singing from notes and understanding how can move accompaniment in a song will help you easily find your favorite melody. And also if you want to compose music easily will write.

Many musicians open their own schools and share their knowledge and experience. And in order to explain exactly how to play, besides practice, of course, you need to know the theory of music notation.

Studying music theory – analyzing intervals, chords, tonalities, making notes. We analyze durations, learn rhythmic patterns, learn to select music by ear, improvise and compose. We write dictations… Everything is like in a music school, only more interesting and more fun!
I am convinced that any pianist and amateur musician needs to
full solfeggio. This is necessary in order not to waste extra time on this in the specialty lessons. Especially when there is so little of it.

You can pick up any song and accompaniment and transpose anywhere. In any key.

Analyzing the work you play, you have more channels of perception involved, which means you remember it faster and better.

If you have the experience of consciously singing from notes, then the muscles of the larynx remember the feeling of the height of each sound. And then, hearing the sound, it is easier to remember what note it is. It turns out, another channel of perception.

Solfegging helps to tone the melody on the instrument. Feeling the mood of each interval in the melodic line (and not only). That is, not to mechanically extract the sound, but to feel that a second is a small step, a natural gradual movement forward or swaying, and you need to “reach out” to the seventh, this is always an increased concentration, a sign of attention. All this is much easier to experience through singing than to calculate milliseconds of delay for the expressiveness of a seventh jump…
Music is like Chinese: intonation can drastically change the meaning of a word. We all know how to speak, and singing is an intermediate step to transfer the intonation from the voice to the instrument, to the fingers. For example, not everyone can appreciate the beauty of Chinese poetry, can they? To do this, at least you need to know Chinese well.
Music is a language. Know solfeggio and music theory, be able to correctly express the meaning with intonation = sing before playing.
If you know the musical language, then you understand music. What the music is about, what the composer wanted to say…
Compare music with learning a foreign language. You can learn a lot, for example, Italian words. Repeat exactly all the syllables of the song, like a parrot, for Toto Cutugno (insert your favorite singer) – and it will sound like you speak Italian.
But you don’t know italian until you understand the meaning, the translation of these words! and durations – by hand, by ear. But only knowledge of the “language”, the theoretical base, makes it possible to independently learn new things, select and record by ear, play a melody on another instrument … Play whatever you want – just listen to the recording or find notes on the Internet!
And generally understand what you are “talking” (playing) about and listening to what story the composer was telling.

Group for adults from scratch.

We have two adults who want to study solfeggio and music theory. Adults at the initial stage, but the children’s pace does not suit them. Therefore, by a strong-willed decision, I organize a group for beginner adults. We will start from scratch, but we will go quickly and dynamically. There will be a lot of homework with verification. Theory, the development of ear, rhythm, selection by ear, the structure of scales, intervals, chords and everything according to the program, but at an adult pace. There will be up to 4 people in the group. If there are adults or very smart children who are able to learn the material at an adult pace, there is an opportunity for two more students to join. The group is suitable for both beginners and for applicants preparing to enter middle-level musical institutions (school, college). I plan to name the terms in Russian, and duplicate them in English. Lesson times: Tuesday MSK 22:00 / Central Europe 20:00 / England 19:00 / Israel 21:00 / Australia 6:00am Wed. / NY 2:00pm / California 11:00am

Payment $10/lesson per person
